Energy Farming

The farms are not just the fields to grow crops. They have immense scope for generating energy through various means. Most of these means are the source of clean energy. The major energy sources from farms are:
1. Biomass
2. Biofuel
3. Hydroelectricity
4. Solar
1. Biomass
Biomass is a plant based material used as energy source through various means, It can be used directly or by converting into some other material like biogas or biofuel. The thermal, chemical or biological conversion of biomass can provide clean and renewable source of energy which is also cost effective. This can also help in solving the ecological menaces like pine needles to help ecology grow unhindered.
Our objective is to partner with the players who are already working in this direction along with finding other innovative ways to efficiently use the biomass.
2. Biofuels
Biofuels are transportation fuels such as ethanol and biomass based diesel (Biodiesel) that are made from biomass. These fuels are blended with petroleum fuels, but they can also be used on their own. Ethanol and biodiesel are also cleaner-burning fuels that pure petrol and diesel.
Our objective is to work on the sources of 2nd and 3rd generation bio fuels in and around farms.
3. Hydroelectricity
Hydroelectricity is the harnessing of water in motion to generate electricity. The moving water can be used to turn the blades of turbine to generate electricity.
There are 3 different types of hydroelectricity plants:
A. Reservoir Based Plant
The water stored in a reservoir is released harnessing the gravitational force along withb the potential energy to move the turbine blades.
B. Channel Based Plant
The water is diverted through canals to the channels flowing river water towards generator powering turbine
C. Storage Based Plant
The third type of plant is called a pumped storage facility. The plant collects the energy produced from solar, wind and nuclear power and stores it for future use. The plant stores energy by pumping water uphill from the pool at a lower elevation. When there is high demand for electricity, water located in the high pool is released. As this water flows back down to lower reservoir, it turns a turbine to generate more electricity.
Hydroelectric energy is the most commonly used renewable source of energy with China being largest producer and India among the top in the world. Approximately 71% of all the renewable electricity is generated from hydro power.
The ideal solution for hilly areas is he micro-hydrosites as these sites use the flowing water without the need of storing the water behind a reservoir.
Our objective is to harness this free flow of streams to generate electricity.
4. Solar Energy
The Sun is an extremely powerful energy source and sunlight is by far the largest source of energy received by Earth.
The solar radiation may can be converted directly into electricity by solar cells (Photovoltaic Cells). In such cells, a small electric voltage is generated when light sticks the junction between a metal and a semiconductor, such as silicon, or a junction between two different semiconductors. The power generated by a single photovoltaic cell is typically only about 2 Watts, By connecting large number of individual cells together, however, as in solar panel arrays, hundreds or even thousands of kilowatts of electric power can be produced in a solar electric plant.
Our objective here is to integrate the agriculture with solar power generation through installation of solar panels in the farm and to generate electricity along with producing farm products.
